We were commissioned to design a new small-format, curated retail concept for DRAWER.

Building on two themes that have long been integral to DRAWER — “British” and “cheap chic” — we introduced a new element: “wonder.” Our intention was to bring another layer of character to the compact 25-tsubo space, revealing a different side of DRAWER through the design.

The planning of the space was central to our approach.
A curved glass wall divides the space into two distinct areas, each designed with a different level of visual density. The contrast gives each area its own character, creating a sense of surprise and anticipation within the intimate scale of the store.

And then, a fabric-covered chandelier — an embodiment of “cheap chic.”
In the West, one occasionally encounters unused chandeliers and furniture left covered in fabric, quietly standing in place. There is something compelling in this image: the casualness of concealing something ornate, and a mysterious beauty that feels as though time has momentarily stood still.

We brought this sense of presence into the space, combining it with the elegance inherent to DRAWER. What lies beneath the fabric? We hope that the imagination sparked by what remains unseen becomes part of the “wonder” experienced within the space.
